The Problem

In the U.S. alone, over 133 million people live with chronic diseases, many of which require regular infusions to treat conditions like cancer, immunological disorders, and rare blood diseases. These treatments are critical but often burdensome. Administered through intravenous (IV) infusions in clinics or hospitals, they demand time, travel, and a dependence on healthcare infrastructure that many patients find physically and emotionally taxing. As these therapies expand in scale and complexity, so does the need for drug delivery systems that work with people's lives.

The Outcome

A large-volume drug delivery device designed with no real learning curve, something a patient can use confidently the first time. The goal was to move away from clinical, intimidating design toward something approachable and a little playful, including personalized faceplates that make the device feel like it belongs to the patient, giving them a small but meaningful way to make a medical necessity feel like it belonged to them, not just something done to them.

Impact

Safety without fear

The needle is never visible, which reduces anxiety and makes the experience far less intimidating for people who are nervous about injections.

Dosing that adapts to real life

The system supports a wide range of medication volumes, allowing patients and clinicians to use one familiar device for both small and large doses.

Comfort that fits into everyday life

A customizable, discreet design helps people feel confident wearing it at any age or in any setting, while reusable and biodegradable components reduce waste.

Decisions
& Process

Every decision, from how the device is physically interacted with to how it visually presents itself, was built around the patient's comfort and confidence, not clinical convention. Moving the form language away from typical medical device aesthetics was intentional, it needed to read as distinct from other products in the category, approachable rather than sterile. The final form was refined specifically to feel intuitive to hold and use without instruction. Offering color variations and personalization options.
